About Lion Cottage

Endless walks and exploring await the guests of Lion Cottage, nestled away in the village of Birchover sandwiched between the historic towns of Bakewell and Matlock on the south east of the Peak District National Park.

The biggest draw to many visitors of Lion Cottage is the convenient 'Walk-in, Walk-out' set-up, with stunning walks and hikes from the front door to an array of local attractions including Monsal Head, Medieval Haddon Hall, and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle. The village also enjoys two popular pubs, so a refuel is literally just round the corner.

The countryside is quiet and majestic all year round - magical winters, beautiful springs, sunshine summers and amber autumns. There's a feeling of going back in time and a definite sleepiness about the place. Enjoy playing witness to old-fashioned agriculture, with lots of livestock enjoying the fresh outdoors with you.

Built in the 18th century, the traditional stone cottage is steeped in character but maintained to a high standard. It's a lovely comforting place to come back to after a long day exploring.

Cosy cottage in a peaceful village. Nothing negative to say about the cottage. Generous heating, comfortable and clean. 2 fantastic pubs within crawling distance with very friendly locals. Nice walks available from the cottage.

A home away from home! Had a lovely time, going on muddy walks, drinking lots of tea, and cosy nights by the fire. Thank you. (This was exactly what was needed, in a world that's gone a bit crazy!)

We have had a lovely comfortable stay. The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the Peak District. we enjoyed dinner at the Bulls Head in Ashford-in-the-Water, and the Woodyard in Bakewell. Dovedale is beautiful, also Monsal Dale, and a walk through Stanton Moor is scenic and interesting. Heights of Abraham good fun for the kids! We will be back to explore more.

I really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation is comfortable and has everything you need. Location is perfect as circular walks deep into the Peak District can start and end outside the front door. Visited both Pubs in the village during our visit. One is next door and the other a minutes walk. Both had excellent food and enhanced our visit further. Fully recommend.

We adored our stay at Lion Cottage and can't wait to come back! It comfortable, relaxing, and had such a nice feel about it. We stayed for a week but only just scratched the surface of all the local walks! The scenery was truly stunning and it was so well situated between Bakewell and Matlock which we enjoyed visiting too!
